Data Scientist – Ontology

Hybrid – Hampton, VA

Role:

WTI is building a team of strong data-focused engineers to lead the USAF effort to implement unclassified, secret and top secret networks. This team will be on the front lines of the USAF’s effort to modernize current data programs with the task of implementing data and system interoperability processes, identifying gaps in the current architecture and providing recommendations for solutioning to address gaps.

Role Responsibilities:

The Data Scientist’s main responsibility will be to focus on aligning strategy and org structure for the best value use of enterprise data and capability integration. Their primary duties include: business/mission process modeling; mapping and building mission architecture components (aka: create and maintain a knowledge base of linkages, strengths and shortfalls of various other architectures/architecture components, such as individual systems, process, network, or information/data flows, etc.) to support/enable strategic and operations outcomes); provide visualized growth; and build high-level models for future analysis. They will also advise on developing enterprise-level design guidance, standards and policies.

They must be able to translate complex subjects into actionable recommendations for teams and stakeholders while producing reports, graphics, give presentations, perform SME representation in various forums, conduct customer outreach and data architecture related education.   They must be able to work as a team member addressing complex architectures and/or strategy-to-architecture efforts.  They should hold one or more of the following certifications:   Business Architecture Guild (BIZBOK), Business Architect Certification Program, or The Open Group Architect Framework (TOGAF) Certification.

Position requires the following qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI
  • 5+ years of experience of Data Science experience and a Master’s Degree in a relevant field; or 10+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Able to travel to Hampton, VA as requested by the customer. At this time this role is hybrid, however, there is the possibility this will be required to be more on-site in the future.
  • Expertise in Object-based production and/or object-orientated programming
  • Familiarity with RDF, OWL and/or TTL
  • Familiarity with SPARQL and SHACL

Nice to haves:

  • Experience developing semantics
  • Experience developing taxonomies and ontologies
  • Implementation experience for ontology management systems
  • Familiarity with BFO and CCO
  • Prior work with OBO, W3C or CUBRC+
